Dwayne Johnson has shared the first-look image from his Amazon Christmas movie, Red One, and it finds his and Chris Evans' characters in a toy store.
The first-look images for Red One spotlight Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans' hilarious chemistry. Johnson and Evans have established themselves as beloved Hollywood superstars who can carry their own franchises. After Jumanji and The Fast Saga, Johnson recently joined DC with his titular role in Black Adam last month, while Evans new Netflix movie The Gray Man also has expansion plans, meaning that the actor could have more long-term commitments after his MCU run as Captain America/ Steve Rogers. However, the stars' new roles do not suggest that they would be sticking to only a few IPs, as their new collaboration, Red One also has some big franchising plans.
Directed by Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle helmer Jake Kasdan off a story idea from Hiram Garcia and Johnson, Red One is described as an action-adventure holiday film that teams up Johnson and Evans in the title roles. Also starring alongside the duo in the Red One cast are Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Nick Kroll, and Kristofer Hivju, who were announced for the film in February. Details on Red One aren't exactly abundant, but after a competitive bidding war, the film is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video as the first entry in a potential franchise.
Now Johnson has shared the first-look image at his and Evans' unnamed characters from Red One on Instagram, along with a couple of BTS shots which captures the stars' candid amiable chemistry. The image sees the lead characters in a gift shop adorned by Christmas decorations, but doesn't give any information about the story. In his caption, however. What Is The Story Of Red One About
Currently, not much information is available for Red One save the new image Johnson has dropped. However, additional reports also confirm that J.K. Simmons and Bonnie Hunt will also star in the movie, tackling the role of Santa and Mrs. Claus respectively. This additional bit of casting information supports the idea that Red One will delve deep into the holiday mythology, taking viewers on a trip to the North Pole, and showcasing the iconic Christmas figures and objects, presumably including elves, Santa's workshop, and reindeer. How those elements, however, would be treated and incorporated into the story will become clear once more Red One set photos and videos arrive.
Considering its story and vibe, audiences can look forward to Red One's premiere on Amazon Prime sometime around Christmas 2023. Although Evans and Johnson have both played prolific characters in several multi-million dollar movie franchises, this franchise experience will be decidedly different for the stars as they vie to grab a share of audiences' attention in the crowded holiday movie season. Right now, the prospect of an action-comedy backdropped by Christmas seems quite intriguing, but ultimately Red One's success and profitability will be dictated by several other factors, including how well is the story executed and if viewers choose to give the unique genre-bending film a try over the traditional holiday rom-coms they are more accustomed to binge around that time of the year.
